Repairs to Charmouth Beach footbridge are to finish later than expected.
Due to the recent freezing weather, and the need to divert the workforce onto gritting operations for the council, some of the work is taking longer to complete.
Completion is anticipated for late February. However, the bridge and footpath will be open to the public for the half term week starting 13 February 2023.
Through the work, the bridge’s boardwalk is being replaced and the handrails and posts either repaired or replaced.
While the bridge is closed, anyone wishing to visit the beach should plan ahead accordingly.
Please always take care when visiting any of Dorset’s beaches. The Jurassic Coast is a wonderful place to visit, but it is important to use common sense and caution – and always pay attention to warning signs and messages about staying safe.
The official notice for the closure has been extended to 3 March 2023, but the work should complete before this so the bridge can reopen earlier.
