Fairfield Road proposals – still time to have your say

Our survey on proposals to make Fairfield Road in Dorchester safer for pedestrians, cyclists and wheelchair users closes on 17 March.

Fairfield Road is the main route between the two Dorchester railway stations, but there is no dedicated footway.

It is also is the main walking route for people travelling to and from the hospital, Damers Road and the Brewery Square, Manor Park and Fordington areas.

We want to hear how people currently use Fairfield Road and what they think about our proposals.

Our survey is quick to complete. Paper questionnaires are also available at Dorchester Library and at the front desk at County Hall.

  1. The safest footpath route which should be properly signposted is down Great Western Road.
The only current viable traffic route from the West Station to Damers Road is to use Fairfield Road and return up Great Western Road, as the left turn out of the Station Road is prohibited.
The vast majority of pedestrian usage of Fairfield Road comes from the car parks and only affects the eastern end of the road.
The proposal will create a car access problem to the car park and further help to kill the town centre for shopping by car. In this the Council is doing a good job.
