Dorset Road Fix – resurfacing June 2023

Our highways maintenance gangs are out across the council area continuing to repair road damage.

They do this by resurfacing and, to allow this work to take place safely, the area of the road being worked on will be closed. Signed diversions will be in place.

We will do our best to keep residents updated if our schedule of work changes. The roads will be open outside of the hours given.

Horsecliff Lane, Swanage – 8 to 9 June, 9am to 4pm daily

Cranborne Road, Swanage – 8 to 9 June, 9am to 4pm daily

B3092 Milton on Stour – 12 to 17 June, 8pm to 6am nightly

Charles Street, Dorchester – 19 to 20 June, 8pm to 6am nightly

A351, Sandford Road – 20 to 22 June, 8pm to 6am nightly

North Quay, Weymouth – 22 to 24 June, 8pm to 6am nightly

B3082, Wimborne Road, Tarrant Keyneston – 26 to 30 June, daily

This is not an exhaustive list of all repairs. See our online map to view all planned roadworks across the Dorset Council area, including works undertaken by water, gas and telecoms companies, National Highways and other organisations.

Also currently taking place is our annual round of surface dressing, prolonging the life of roads by providing a waterproof seal.

Need to tell us about an issue?

Please use our online form to report highway-related issues/damage. This goes directly to the local community highways officer for assessment.

  1. There are yellow signs up warning of the closure 6 – 23 June 24 hrs of the road from Charminster (Westleaze) past the Sun Inn, down to the BP Station by the Grove/Lidl.
However, this site and your map says nothing about it.
There has been no warning to residents of Charminster about what will be considerable disruption to their lives.
    What’s happening and why???

    1. Dear David, there are details on our map here: https://one.network/?GB134000562 The road closure is needed so we can remove and repair a parapet wall that was damaged during a road traffic collision. For the safety of motorists as most of the wall will be removed during the repairs, the narrow road will need to be closed day and night.
Letters have been sent to local residents and the parish council, and signs erected advising the diversion that will be in place. We will also be erecting further signs on the A352. We are sorry for the inconvenience this essential work and safety measures will cause but thank you in advance for your patience.

    2. Hello,

Can you clarify how access will be maintained for residents when the resurfacing work on the A351, Sandford Road – 20 to 22 June is undertaken, particularly for those residents who live off the A351 but have no alternative access routes

      1. Hi Keith, we have written to local residents affected by the works explaining arrangements during the overnight works. Our onsite crew will always assist them regarding access, and if residents have an appointment we ask that they make the crew aware, but also allow extra time for travel. Claire

  2. Why is there no mention of the work on the Edmondsham Road out of Verwood?

  3. Claire,
I thought that Lynmoor Road, Weymouth was up for resurfacing in June!

  4. Forest View Drive, Stapehill has become very bumpy and uneven. Any chance of resurfacing ? Thanks

  5. I cannot understand why the major redevelopment occurring at Parley Cross results in highly disruptive road works over many months. Why were the services for the site together with road changes for the site entrance not carried out as an initial complete phase for 2 months leaving then all the remaining works on the site?

  6. When are you going to resurface REDWOOD DRIVE FERNDOWN after the accident last year.

    1. Hi Brenda, this is due to take place this summer. We will issue communications when the date has been confirmed. Best regards, Claire
