Dorset Road Fix – Resurfacing in September 2023

Roads around Dorset are being resurfaced to repair damage.

Roads near or at the end of their life will be resurfaced. Resurfacing repairs the structural failure in the lower layers of the road as well as the surface, restoring shape and strength.

To allow the work to take place safely, the area of the road being worked on will be closed. Signed diversions will be in place.

Access to properties and businesses is maintained, though drivers may have to wait a moment while machinery is moved or a task is finished to ensure the work area is safe to move through.

We will do our best to keep residents updated if our schedule of work changes. The roads will be open outside of the hours given.

9am to 4pm daily

Fairfield Road, New Field Lane, Shroton – 4 to 7 September

Chapel Lane, Maiden Newton – 6 to 8 September

Overnight, 8pm to 6am

Dorchester Road, Weymouth (Manor roundabout to Weymouth Bay Avenue) – [DELAYED UNTIL NOVEMBER]

Sherborne Hill/Dancing Hill, Near Sherborne – 14 to 19 September

Please note from Monday 4 to Wednesday 13 September, kerb replacement and footpath repairs at Dancing Hill will take place to prepare for the resurfacing.  24-hour traffic lights will be in operation from 4 to 13 September. This will be from the lay-by at the top of the hill down to the terrace junction.

Westbury A352, Sherborne – 19 to 21 September

South Street/Gas House Hill, Sherborne – 21 to 26 September

Upton bypass, westbound carriageway from A350 to Bakers Arms roundabout – 26 to 27 September

Barr Lane/High Street, Burton Bradstock – 27 to 1 October

This is not an exhaustive list of all repairs. See our online map to view all planned roadworks across the Dorset Council area, including works undertaken by water, gas and telecoms companies, National Highways and other organisations.

  1. It is about time you gave some serious attention to St.John’s Hill at Shaftesbury. It is in an appalling state, masses of potholes, and big ones at that. Bearing in mind that it is a heavily used road it should prioritise’the number of’no through roads’that seem to get more attention!

      1. Another bodge job! This has been patched many times already. Surely the gradient itself is indicative of excessive wear on the surface. I appreciate the expense etc involved but surely it’s time for a proper job to be done.

    1. Dorset is more occupied messing about with the road system in Ferndown for cyclists, so you are not as important.

  2. Footpath at West End of Queens |Avenue not suitable for disabled users.
+Too many tree roots make disabled zimmers dangerous and cannot be used

      1. As long as it remains impossible to leave ones home safely on Slayers Lane, Nr Dorchester then Dorset Council has well and truly demonstrated that it does not careless about the health and safety of residents. Regardless of chronic arthritis II normally walk the three miles across fields I to Dorchester now and try not to go anywhere else because I simply cannot get a car out of my drive for the volume and speed of traffic on blind bends.

  3. I am concerned about two or three ‘near misses’ my husband and I have encountered when turning left into the part of Grenville Rd. which leads to Richmond Road and Cromwell Rd and where if not turning left would take you into what used to be the market entrance. Could a short yellow line be put on the left side at the T junction of the two parts of Grenville
rd. There is, more often than not a car parked right on the corner which when approaching the part of Grenville Rd. which used to go to the market from the part which takes us to Cromwell Rd. (where we live) poses such a risk. Obviously people exiting from the Cromwell Rd. part of Grenville Rd. have to exit on the wrong side of the road to overtake the parked car. People wishing to turn left into this road from the Leigh Rd. cannot see far enough round the corner due to a garden fence. We always approach this corner very slowly but people overtaking the parked car cannot see us approaching from the Leigh Rd. This is going to be more difficult when the new houses on the market sight will also be using this road. I hope you can understand all this – it is very difficult to explain !

  4. What has happened to the roadworks on South Street/Gas House Hill, Sherborne – 21 to 26 September?
There is still a road closure and no work seems to be happening over night.
My business is on South Street and we are experiencing a drop in trade due to the road being closed, the road being torn up without any resurfacing and have not had any indication as to when it will be finished (We’re obviously outside of the 21st-26th September window).
