Dorset Road Fix – resurfacing October 2023

Our highways maintenance gangs are out across the council area continuing to repair road damage.

They do this by resurfacing and, to allow this work to take place safely, the area of the road being worked on will be closed. Signed diversions will be in place.

We will do our best to keep residents updated if our schedule of work changes. The roads will be open outside of the hours given.

9am to 4pm daily:

Higher Shaftesbury Road, Pimperne – 2 to 10 October

Boynes Lane/Higher Shaftesbury Road, Blandford Forum – 11 to 23 October

Bessells Lane and Telegraph Street, Shroton – 24 to 27 October

French Mill Lane, Cann – 30 October (Resurfacing following emergency works)

Ratcliff’s Garden – 31 October (Rescheduled works)

8pm to 6am nightly:

A350 Spetisbury – 2 to 6 October

Station Road,  West Moors – 6 to 20 October

A35 Slepe – 20 October to 1 November

This is not an exhaustive list of all works. See our online map to view all planned roadworks across the Dorset Council area, including works undertaken by water, gas and telecoms companies, National Highways and other organisations.

  1. Bay Road in Gillingham has been in a dreadful condition for well over a year now, especially between Queen Street (co-op) and the Malthouse care home— so I thought I’d do my bit and report it to you. Driving on the road a month ago, I noticed potholes, cracks and bumps everywhere that could well cause damage to my tyres over time, even at a low speed. HGVs and school buses use the road twice-daily which contributes to the problem, and cyclists also use this road frequently. Either way, it’s treacherous. I really hope you consider it as a priority for a proper resurfacing at some point within the next year.

I’ll also say the give-way system over the bridge on Bay Road seems to cause quite a few problems; having walked the road frequently for the last 7 years to/from school I have seen a lot of unsuspecting motorists/cyclists get caught out thinking it’s clear, and end up meeting oncoming traffic on the bridge— and that’s partly because visibility over the bridge towards the Bay Lane junction from the build-out and vice Versa is poor due to vegetation growth. Maybe it could be considered for a few further traffic calming and safety updates in the future?

  2. Between Yetminster and the A37 going towards Dorchester there is a very bumpy bit of road on a bend, needing a very slow approach coming from Dorchester

  3. Where can I find out about the imminent roadworks planned for the A35 West of Bridport please?

      1. Come on Dorset Council, we’re in mid November! Please update your Road fix for everyone.

  4. North Allington, Bridport, is in a terrible state of disrepair. Came to this town 1984, and drive up or down virtually daily, and never seen any major repair in all those years. Just odd patch of pothole repair.
Last year there were signs saying “Temporary road surface”, so how long is Temporary?

  5. Wessexwater came to installed a water pipe in Pentridge Lane,Bagber digging through tarmac, and did not replace the tarmac, so now the water is not able to get to the road gully we have a lake

    1. Hi Peter, I’m sorry to hear this. It is South West Water’s responsibility to make right, but I have I have passed this on so our inspector can pick this up as a defect. Claire
