We ran the last of the Government Digital Service pre-packaged sessions for this week, complimented with some of our own examples. These have gone down really well, with people wanting to know more as a result. To help with this, James in the team has pulled together a design toolkit covering our approach and linking to resources available on the web.

Design champions from adult social care shared their experiences of being involved in understanding current customer journeys. This approach has made them feel valued and inspired, and helped support services understand the challenges social workers deal with.
Our Special Educational Needs team have moved from understanding the problems to co-designing solutions with parents and young people. The team have found the iterative approach really motivating as it provides pace, and the prototyping with ongoing user research gives confidence in the change.
The finale to services week in Dorset was learning how design can be used to enable system wide change, tackling some of the complex challenges we face today. Examples from other communities about the positive impact of putting people at the centre, understanding their needs and behaviours to co-design solutions that enable sustainable change. This has to be the way forward for the 21st century council.
It’s been a great week of learning and lots to think about and do differently as a result.
