5Go mad in Dorset

Dorset . . . cream teas, Enid Blyton, fossils and not one inch of motorway. That’s the image you have in mind, right?

Sure, rural Dorset is a historic and incredibly beautiful place to live, work and visit. But who says a stunning landscape has to mean rubbish connectivity?

We are leading a Government-backed £6.7 million project to help shape the future of 5G services in rural areas. We’ll have a national profile and work alongside household names including Vodafone, Microsoft and the RNLI.

We want a future where technology provides our young people with opportunities, helps the elderly live independent lives for longer and where businesses thrive because of – not in spite of – our location.

What you will be doing

You will be working in a small project team alongside colleagues in the council’s new Digital and Change Service, as well as a range of internal and external stakeholders, from councillors and local communities to central government departments and suppliers.

Day-to-day work will include:

  • Conducting research and handling information
  • Maintaining project and programme data
  • Preparing, presenting and distributing reports and information for a range of audiences
  • Supporting project work packages
  • Organising and taking part in working groups, meetings and seminars
  • Talking/negotiating with project partners and stakeholders
  • Championing the project

About you

You don’t need to know about 5G, but an interest in technology is definitely an advantage.

The role would suit someone keen to build on experience working in a project/programme environment with strong written and data management skills.
