The sessions aimed to share our learning and best practice with staff and councillors.\u00a0The following sessions in Christchurch were filmed and can be viewed on YouTube:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2AKBH_M57uo\">Good content management<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=6M7qbMM-6TE\">Use of agile and lean<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In order to really understand what Dorset wants out of a council website, we have been talking to customers in libraries and our council offices. The next step was to do some user testing. We contacted residents subscribed to our <a href=\"https:\/\/public.govdelivery.com\/accounts\/UKDORSET\/subscriber\/new\">e-newsletter\u00a0service<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0had over\u00a0250 people volunteer to be testers.\u00a0If you&#8217;d like to be a user tester in the future please <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dorsetforyou.com\/419614\">sign up here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-104 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/news.dorsetforyou.gov.uk\/digital-first\/files\/2015\/09\/User-testing-group-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"User testing in group\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk\/digital-first\/files\/2015\/09\/User-testing-group-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/news.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk\/digital-first\/files\/2015\/09\/User-testing-group.jpg 616w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/>We selected nine\u00a0participants, who in sessions of three completed some tasks on the existing website, and a prototype website. We asked them to pay council tax in their area, and look at other sections such as moving home.\u00a0It was great to hear a range of different opinions. Some liked aspects of the existing site, but\u00a0the majority liked the look of the test site best.\u00a0It is vital that we involve customers at this early stage,\u00a0so that we can really understand their needs.<\/p>\n<p>General themes from the user testing included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A\u00a0desire\u00a0for simple, easy to use design<\/li>\n<li>A dislike of jargon and complicated wording<\/li>\n<li>A pride in Dorset, and ensuring a new website reflects the beautiful surroundings<\/li>\n<li>A need for a quick, modern website that is clutter free<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Lots of notes to write up, and lots of excellent feedback that will contribute to the design of the new website.<\/p>\n<p>The next steps?
