{"id":269,"date":"2017-01-23T10:48:30","date_gmt":"2017-01-23T10:48:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.dorsetforyou.gov.uk\/digital-first\/?p=269"},"modified":"2017-01-23T10:57:02","modified_gmt":"2017-01-23T10:57:02","slug":"user-testing-is-a-crucial-part-of-our-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk\/digital-first\/2017\/01\/23\/user-testing-is-a-crucial-part-of-our-project\/","title":{"rendered":"User testing is a crucial part of our project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our content redesign project is well underway.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>We began by establishing 10 priority areas to focus on in our redesign:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk\/travel-dorset\/roads-and-driving\/parking\">Parking<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk\/planning\">Planning<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk\/travel-dorset\/roads-and-driving\/request-a-road-service\">Highways<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk\/community-and-living\">Registrars<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk\/recycling-rubbish-and-waste\">Dorset Waste Partnership<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk\/housing\">Housing<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk\/benefits-advice\">Revenues and Benefits<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk\/health-wellbeing-disability\">Adult Social Care<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk\/leisurecentres\">Leisure centres<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk\/fis\">Children\u2019s Services<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Before we started redesigning these areas we undertook some user testing with customers. We set them a range of tasks to baseline both customer satisfaction and website usability.<\/p>\n<p>We asked users to complete a series of actions like applying for garden waste collection, finding out their council tax band, finding out how to apply for housing, or looking for planning advice.<\/p>\n<p>We videoed users doing the tasks to see how easy or difficult it was for them to find the information they needed. From the videos it soon became clear where the weak points are in our customer journeys.<\/p>\n<p>This user-testing was extremely useful.
