{"id":517,"date":"2019-10-10T10:46:51","date_gmt":"2019-10-10T09:46:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.dorsetforyou.gov.uk\/digital-first\/?p=517"},"modified":"2019-10-10T10:46:51","modified_gmt":"2019-10-10T09:46:51","slug":"social-care-digital-innovation-accelerator","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk\/digital-first\/2019\/10\/10\/social-care-digital-innovation-accelerator\/","title":{"rendered":"Social Care Digital Innovation Accelerator"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We are really excited to be part of the first Social Care Digital Innovation Accelerator project, working in collaboration to develop a digital solution that responds to the new Liberty Protection Safeguards legislation.<\/p>\n<p>What do we mean by Liberty Protection Safeguards?<\/p>\n<p>The Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, come under the Mental Capacity Act. They currently apply to people living in hospitals, care homes and nursing homes. The law says that no one should be deprived of their liberty unless this has been done through a process prescribed by law and that they have access to a right of appeal. More information can be found here: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk\/care-and-support-for-adults\/information-for-professionals\/mental-capacity-act-and-dols-team\/deprivation-of-liberty-safeguards-dols.aspx\">https:\/\/www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk\/care-and-support-for-adults\/information-for-professionals\/mental-capacity-act-and-dols-team\/deprivation-of-liberty-safeguards-dols.aspx<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Last month some of the Mental Capacity Act team attended a thought-provoking day engaging in a discovery workshop with the Local Government Association, NHS Digital, Adult\u2019s Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS), the Institute of Public Care, Coventry, Bristol, Kirklees and RB Windsor and Maidenhead councils and Looking Local (the IT Provider).<\/p>\n<p>We received an update from ADASS who are heavily involved in writing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scie.org.uk\/mca\/dols\/practice\/lps\">Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS) <\/a>Code of Practice. We discussed the current issues with the Deprivation of Liberty Process, this included receiving referrals, processing and the volumes.<\/p>\n<p>We talked about what a press release on day 1 of the legislation going live might look like\u2026<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;1\/10\/2020: Today we went live with a new national system which holds all the assessments and authorisations for Liberty Protection Safeguards. The impact of this is less intrusion into a person\u2019s and families life as they won&#8217;t be repeatedly over assessed, information will be shared and for individuals moving from one part of the country to another it would be seamless in terms of responsible bodies having access to information.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The next stage is for Looking Local to come to Dorset and shadow some of our work, meet with Adults and Children Services staff, and other key stakeholders including Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council, Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group, Dorset Healthcare University Foundation Trust, Royal Bournemouth Hospital, Dorset County Hospital, Poole Hospital, Weldmar Hospice and care homes to work out what is needed.<\/p>\n<p>Sue Farmer \u2013 Specialist Manager MCA\/DOLS Adult Care<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are really excited to be part of the first Social Care Digital Innovation Accelerator project, working in collaboration to develop a digital solution that responds to the new Liberty Protection Safeguards legislation.
