{"id":2204,"date":"2022-11-28T16:14:52","date_gmt":"2022-11-28T16:14:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk\/dorset-care-record\/?p=2204"},"modified":"2022-11-28T16:14:52","modified_gmt":"2022-11-28T16:14:52","slug":"collecting-litter-along-the-jurassic-coast-our-volunteering-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk\/dorset-care-record\/2022\/11\/28\/collecting-litter-along-the-jurassic-coast-our-volunteering-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Collecting litter along the Jurassic Coast \u2013 Our volunteering day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Members of the Dorset Care Record (DCR) and Wessex Care Record (WCR) teams provided a helping hand for nature recently, spending time litter picking on the Jurassic Coast.<\/p>\n<p>The dozen staff joined the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre manager Ali Ferris to comb through debris washed up on the beach by the week\u2019s storms, finding wooden pallets, washed up flood defence debris, tyre inners, rope netting, plastics and microbeads.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Ali later spoke about the work of the heritage coast centre \u2013 one of only two in the UK \u2013 which has some amazing fossil collections, including the incredible ichthyosaur that starred in the BBC<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/b09m2kgl\"> One &#8211; Attenborough and the Sea Dragon documentary.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Heritage Coast Centre runs guided fossil walks, seashore safaris and offers hands-on curriculum linked activities focused on rocks, fossils, marine habitats and ecosystems.<\/p>\n<p>The beach clean followed a study morning at Chideock Village Hall, where sessions were run on peer coaching, engagement, emergency planning and WCR projects.<\/p>\n<p>Andy Cowling, DCR head of service, said the day had been enjoyable and productive: \u201cIt was good to get members from the two teams together and brilliant to be able to support a fabulous local charity that is doing so much to support the community and enhance the environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ends<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Members of the Dorset Care Record (DCR) and Wessex Care Record (WCR) teams provided a helping hand for nature recently, spending time litter picking on the Jurassic Coast.
