Qualifications & experience
This post reports directly to a Project Team Manager, although on a day to day basis may report to a Project Engineer.
Essential
- The post-holder shall be studying for a full-time bachelor degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
Desirable
- Ideally studying for a Masters degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline. A student member of the Institution of Civil Engineers
- AutoCAD or IT systems City and Guilds Some relevant experience within highway / design organisation
- Awareness of the importance of Health and Safety within the construction environment
- Able to demonstrate some knowledge in highway engineering, transportation engineering or relevant function
- Some experience in dealing with the public and/or public consultation
Job role
- Where directed and supervised, assist in the proper and effective delivery of projects and / or services, from inception to completion
- Assist in undertaking specific aspects of technical activities
- Operate in accordance with Quality and Health and Safety Systems and other agreed procedures and ensure all Health and Safety requirements are met
Travel requirement
- This role will involve the requirement to travel on an irregular basis
The role
Each year Dorset Highways offers a limited number of industrial year placements to enthusiastic and self-motivated undergraduates who are studying for a degree in civil engineering or a related subject. We are able to offer valuable experience in a range of disciplines.
Some students have been provided with sponsorship through their final year of MEng degrees or through other relevant Masters programmes. This has been followed by registration on a training agreement to become professionally qualified.
