Dorset Archives Trust Summer Gala

Dorset Archives Trust will host their annual summer event at St Giles House on 12 July. Nicholas Ashley-Cooper, Earl of Shaftesbury, will share stories from his family archives and his project to save the house from disrepair.

In recent years the 12th Earl of Shaftesbury has undertaken ambitious restoration work on his ancestral home and has won several awards.

Lord Shaftesbury’s interest in the building and his family history has led to cataloguing and conservation work on the archives of the estate and the family. Richard Samways, Shaftesbury Estate Archivist, and Jenny Barnard, Dorset History Centre Conservation Officer, will also share their work on the collection. Some highlights from the Shaftesbury family archive will be on display.

Guests are invited to bring a picnic to enjoy on the lawn from 6pm and join the talk and tour of the house from 7:30pm. Tickets are £15 for Dorset Archives Trust members and £20 for non-members. Strawberries and cream and a glass of fizz are included. All money raised helps Dorset Archives Trust save Dorset’s disappearing history.

To book your ticket email enquiries@dorsetarchivestrust.org or telephone 01305 228945.
