Review of the year: 2022

Welcome to our ‘at a glance’ review of 2022 across Archives and Records.  The service has explored new ways of connecting people to information and cultural heritage both physically and digitally.  We continue to operate in a mixed economy of archival material; whilst digital material – both ‘born digital’ and digitised – continues to grow in importance and complexity, the physical archives remain a really important part of what we do.

As can be seen, there are still significant archive collections sitting out in the community which (often at short notice) require a safe home.  This year’s review also incorporates updates from the wider service – our colleagues in Records Management, Historic Environment Record and the Portable Antiquities Scheme.  This helps to give a sense of the wider scope of the activities undertaken and the range of partnerships that are required in order to do this.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank the organisations large and small that help the work of the Archives and Records service, our friends in Dorset Archives Trust, Dorset’s great network of museums and the hardworking volunteers who enrich the work we are able to deliver with thousands of hours of their time.

Wishing you a very Happy New Year.
