Heritage Open Day 2025

Join us at Dorset History Centre for Heritage Open Day this Sunday 21 September, 10am to 4pm, to find out more about what we do and how we do it!

Our behind-the-scenes tours are now sold out, but there will still be plenty to drop in and do on the day! In our searchroom, there will be an exhibition of selected archive documents highlighting the wonderful architecture of Dorset’s seaside towns. Elsewhere in the building, there will be family activities to get stuck into, including a make your own clay beach hut workshop and badgemaking.

It’s not just archive documents on display either. Our colleagues in the Historic Environment Records team are bringing a treasure trove of archaeological finds which will be on show in the lecture room.

Staff will be on hand to answer any questions you may have throughout the day, from how we care for and conserve fragile documents, to how to get started with your family history. Entry is free, and there is no set time to arrive, so feel free to drop in for 10 minutes or 2 hours!

If you have any questions about the event, or would like more information, please get in touch by telephone: 01305 250550; or by emailing us: archives@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk. We look forward to seeing you!
