{"id":66,"date":"2016-10-19T11:10:40","date_gmt":"2016-10-19T11:10:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.dorsetforyou.gov.uk\/dorset-history-centre-blog\/?page_id=66"},"modified":"2018-05-30T15:20:55","modified_gmt":"2018-05-30T15:20:55","slug":"the-cooper-dean-collection","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/news.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk\/dorset-history-centre-blog\/archive-projects\/the-cooper-dean-collection\/","title":{"rendered":"The Cooper Dean collection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"intro\">The Cooper Dean archive, which provides insight into the history of Bournemouth, is now fully catalogued and free to access at Dorset History Centre.<\/p>\n<div id=\"bodyContent\">\n<p>The collection\u00a0is mainly made up of\u00a0records relating to the management of the Littledown Estate, approximately 1000 acres of modern Bournemouth. <!--more-->The family placed &#8216;Restrictive covenants&#8217; on plots of land that they leased or sold;\u00a0this meant\u00a0leaseholders and owners had to seek permission from the estate office before any building works could be carried out.<\/p>\n<p>The quality and quantity of building records gives residents of Bournemouth an opportunity to discover more about the history of their properties and town. The collection also includes the plans for the original\u00a0stand at Bournemouth and Boscombe Football Club (AFC Bournemouth) 1936, and the plans for the Westcliffe train lift, 1904.<\/p>\n<p>This rich collection has been used in educational work with St. Peters School, Bournemouth\u00a0and to inform plans for the future use of the Dean Park cricket ground.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dcc.dorsetforyou.com\/calmview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">collection<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 20px\">\u00a0is available for viewing at Dorset History Centre thanks to funding received from J.P. Morgan and The A.E.
