“Take Your Time” was a Health and Wellbeing Legacy funded project which aimed to improve well-being for those living with dementia.<\/p>\n

Dorset History Centre (DHC) had\u00a0a Reminiscence Worker, funded for 9 months by the Olympic Legacy Fund.\u00a0Jemima Morgan introduces the project:<\/p>\n

“I have create a set of interactive, sensory resource packs using images, film and oral histories from our archives.\u00a0I have delivered\u00a0sessions using these resource packs in partnership with Tricuro and varied care providers in Residential and Day Se<\/p>\n

rvices for older people throughout Dorset.<\/p>\n

My sessions and the resource packs have been fine tuned over the course of the project\u00a0(the design and the format of both audio visual and practical elements) and now constitutes\u00a0set of resources which really utilise the fascinating archives we have at DHC.<\/p>\n

The resource is primarily a tool for Well Being Sessions: beautiful, interesting, diverse content from across 20th<\/sup>\u00a0Century Dorset which links us to the eternal themes of the human condition; family, work, love, friendship, conflict, loss, landscape and home. The\u00a0tried and tested, accessible packs allow people to spend time together; sharing memories and reactions, building relationships and bringing everyone into the present so as to enhance a sense of playfulness, enjoyment and well-being for all.”<\/p>\n

Positive feedback<\/h2>\n

Jemima delivered 50 interactive, multi-sensory sessions to 360 service users across Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole. Sessions were delivered to mixed groups of adults including those with dementia and\u00a0physical and learning disability.\u00a0The evaluation has evidenced the positive impact of the sessions on the well-being of participants with a clear majority showing percentage increases in happiness, interest and in some cases wellness, confidence and hopefulness. Some users commented:<\/p>\n

“I feel a bit more alive, a bit more elated”<\/p>\n

“I thoroughly enjoyed it. I feel full of happiness now”‘<\/p>\n

“It helps me to look back on time, it gives me something else to think about”.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

We plan to make these dementia-friendly packs available to services and care settings\u00a0so that they can continue to give value to staff and service users into the future.<\/p>\n

We also offer an\u00a0individual introduction<\/a>\u00a0to the History Centre, aimed at carers looking for a new hobby or a dementia friendly venue.<\/p>\n
