Trained volunteers, who collaborated on the design of the project, spoke with people from their early twenties to their seventies. People honestly and bravely shared their experiences of living in Dorset as a gay, bisexual, lesbian, non-binary or trans person. Taken as a collection, they present a thoughtful and nuanced response to questions around social life, the LGBTQ+ community, family life, radical shifts in language, health and prejudice.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1257\" src=\"https:\/\/news.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk\/dorset-history-centre-blog\/files\/2020\/02\/LGBT-1024x628.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"880\" height=\"540\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk\/dorset-history-centre-blog\/files\/2020\/02\/LGBT-1024x628.png 1024w, https:\/\/news.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk\/dorset-history-centre-blog\/files\/2020\/02\/LGBT-300x184.png 300w, https:\/\/news.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk\/dorset-history-centre-blog\/files\/2020\/02\/LGBT-768x471.png 768w, https:\/\/news.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk\/dorset-history-centre-blog\/files\/2020\/02\/LGBT.png 1127w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 880px) 100vw, 880px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The majority of these interviews will be available to listen to in our search room by the end of February. Come on in and ask our staff for a list, and they will make you comfortable for some moving and fascinating listening. <a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/user-842672097\/sets\/lgbt-speakout-oral-history-clips\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Meanwhile, you can get a flavour of the interviews by listening to this selection of clips<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This project reflects DHC\u2019s on-going aspiration to improve the representation of marginalised groups in the county\u2019s records.
