Our new online catalogue<\/a> launched\u00a0<\/span>last week.\u00a0<\/span>This is the place where you can find descriptions of\u00a0<\/span>over<\/span>\u00a0360,000 items in our collections.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We have been working with\u00a0<\/span>the team behind Epexio Discover<\/a><\/span>\u00a0to deliver a modern archival discovery platform<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>which<\/span>\u00a0make<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0it easier for you to find what you are looking for<\/span>\u00a0within Dorset\u2019s archives<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

More dynamic searching…<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

The new catalogue\u00a0<\/span>offers\u00a0<\/span>a<\/span>\u00a0mo<\/span>re<\/span>\u00a0intuitive and user-friendly experience.\u00a0<\/span>You can now sort<\/span>\u00a0and filter your results at the click of a button.\u00a0<\/span>Keywords from across the hierarchy of a collection\u00a0<\/span>can be picked up by a search. This means you don\u2019t have to worry about how the\u00a0<\/span>archive catalogue is structured.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Once you have found things of interest you can save them using the<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u2018Add to s<\/em><\/span>ave<\/em>d records<\/em>\u2019<\/span>\u00a0button on the left<\/span>–<\/span>hand menu, and\u00a0<\/span>later\u00a0<\/span>email the list to yourself or to us<\/span>\u00a0along<\/span>\u00a0with your enquiry.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

By looking at the ‘Browse Collections<\/a>‘ menu, you will be able to get a feel for the types of material we hold, and what collections might be useful for your searches.<\/p>\n

See and hear archives online…<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

I<\/span>t is now possible to\u00a0<\/span>access a digital version<\/span>\u00a0of a small number of records via the online catalogue. You can easily see if there is something relevant to your search by using the \u2018Digital version available\u2019 filter on the left<\/span>–<\/span>hand side of the page.\u00a0<\/span>O<\/span>ral history recordings<\/span>\u00a0from the\u00a0<\/span>LGBTQ+\u00a0<\/span>Speakout<\/span>\u00a0project<\/span><\/a>\u00a0are available in this way.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Whilst we will never be able to digitise\u00a0<\/span>the majority of<\/span>\u00a0our collections<\/span>, in the future we <\/span>intend<\/span>\u00a0to expand this offer by including more<\/span>\u00a0digital copies of our physical records\u00a0<\/span>a<\/span>longside<\/span> born-digital archives<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We have told you before about some of our major projects. Like the project to catalogue the Dame Elisabeth Frink archive<\/a>. Or the Herrison Hospital project<\/a>. Or the Unlocking the Bankes project<\/a>. Or the campaign to save Herbert’s photographic archive<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Well now you can explore these specific collections in our ‘Featured Collections<\/a>‘ page, which offers some background about the collection itself, and a link to each catalogue for you to explore!<\/p>\n

We continue to work on developing the online catalogue.\u00a0<\/span>Future plans<\/span>\u00a0include<\/span>\u00a0enhancing\u00a0<\/span>place-based<\/span>\u00a0searching<\/span>, launching\u00a0<\/span>online exhibitions<\/span> as well as <\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>ongoing<\/span>\u00a0improvement of our catalogue data.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
