Despite humans practicing<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0making resolutions<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> for millennia we seem to be quick to abandon them! Led by the non-conformist churches and trade unions the Temperance movement encouraged\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">people to abstain from the demon drink<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Temperance poster\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">in our collections\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">aim<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0to set people on the right path\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">by depicting<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Temperance Land. In the centre is Moderation Town, from which the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">towns-folk<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0have a choice; they can travel Resolution Road to Temperance Town where they will find &#8216;Beautiful country covered with gardens and richly cultivated lands&#8217; or they can travel Grog Lane to Intemperance Town on the Gulf of Ruin where they will find a &#8216;count<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">r<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">y covered with heavy fog and dark clouds, low and unhealthy land infested with thieves&#8217;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.
