With the help of volunteers, thousands of photographs from the Poole Borough Archive are currently being catalogued. Mostly originating from Poole’s planning department, the photographs range from the mundane (photographs of drainpipes, shop fronts and cracks in walls!) to fascinating images capturing Poole’s recent history.<\/p>\n

A picture is worth a thousand words….<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The images provide an excellent insight into the town’s changing landscape, encompassing restoration projects;\u00a0construction of a number of Borough schools in the 1950s and 1960s;\u00a0major re-development projects, including the construction of the Arndale (now Dolphin) Centre; and shots of most of Poole’s streets and key buildings.<\/p>\n

The descriptions of the\u00a0photographs are now searchable on our\u00a0online catalogue<\/a>, and the photographs are viewable in our\u00a0searchroom<\/a>. The selection below includes the town cellars and warehouse which is now the site of Poole Museum; and the water pump on Paradise Street.<\/p>\n
