Business breakfast events help businesses and schools get together

Earlier in the month, Christchurch and East Dorset Councils were pleased to host the latest in their series of business breakfast events at two local schools. The ‘Developing Skills – Developing Business’ events proved very popular and saw a significant number of business representatives from across the local area in attendance. The aim of the events was to provide an engaging platform for local businesses to meet with representatives from schools and business support organisations. Attendees had the opportunity to hear how a number of businesses in the area are already using young local talent to prosper and grow. Teachers and students were also present to discuss ways in which young people can be helped into the world of business.

Along with this, there were roundtable discussions which helped to identify the challenges faced by schools and businesses wishing to work together. The discussions were particularly productive and resulted in a number of useful suggestions on how the challenges could be overcome and some useful contacts were established. Attendees also heard case studies on successful apprenticeship schemes and how young people are vital ingredients in helping companies grow their business.

Cllr Claire Bath, Portfolio Holder for Economy at Christchurch Borough Council said:

“We would like to thank everyone who attended our latest business breakfasts. We got some great feedback that will go a long way towards helping us encourage the next generation of skilled workers.

“We hope that these breakfast events will have inspired businesses to invest more in young people. We know this has been a great opportunity for businesses and education providers to communicate about ways young people can get the skills that are most in demand.’’

The Going for Growth Business Breakfast events continue to be highly successful in developing and supporting businesses throughout the community.
