Last year we held a free CPD training event for teachers and careers advisors to update them on careers and industry developments within the Engineering sector. The event proved to be so popular that we recently ran the event again.
As before, we held the event at Bournemouth and Poole College which enabled us to offer delegates an interesting mix of presentations, group discussions, a visit to the Electronics workshop at the College and the opportunity to meet with some Apprenticeship students.
Presentations were given by Mark Loose, Bournemouth and Poole College, Gerry Bishop, Cobham PLC, Dr Tania Humphries-Smith, Bournemouth University, Hannah Lowder, Curtiss-Wright, Anna Harpham Gist, The Bourne Academy and Sue Racster, Ultra Electronics.
Delegates heard how different businesses have created Apprenticeship programmes in their workplaces to meet their business needs and how training providers and businesses work together to ensure the success of these programmes once in place. There were also some helpful tips and potential strategies for schools to consider when discussing career options with students.
Our thanks to our hosts, Bournemouth and Poole College and to all the speakers and delegates who attended.
We appreciate all the positive feedback we received after the event.
You’ll find copies of the presentations from the day on our Events page – https://www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk/economic-development/CED/Events
