Roused at 1 a.m. & Battalion left Bivouac 1.30. Marched till 5 a.m. & then halted for breakfast. Heard gunfire in the distance. Saw Allies Aeroplane pass over.
Order received 7 a.m. to retire to [blank] and Battalion took up a position and dug trenches. Several wagons of wounded and refugees passed us. Our line at night was shelled and at 11 p.m. after the retiring troops had passed through, orders received to close & retire. Battalion marching all night & everyone feeling tired.
