Major Pigott took over command of Battalion. Regiment remained in present trenches & kept up heavy fire against Enemy while 2nd Seaforth Highldrs attacked FRELINGHIEN with Irish Fusiliers in Support and supported by one guns. 2 Coys of Seaforths were entrenched in village at 6 p.m. “A” & “D” Coys took over front line trenches from “B” & “C” Coys. 1 man wounded “B” Coy. Sniped.
I wondered if it would be possible for you to post a small map, I know I could look for these places but it would help if we could just have a little map every now and then!
Many thanks
Hi Susan, we don’t have any maps of the area in our own collections but there are some available for free via the Australian Army History Unit: http://www.army.gov.au/Our-history/Primary-Materials/World-War-One-1914-to-1918/Maps
I hope that helps.
Best wishes,

Hi Susan,
I currently own and live in what used to be a farm in operation up until 16 years ago when I bought it. Located in Houplines, it sits litterally right on the “Western Front” and has been occupied by British troops for about three years and was actually named the “Pigott Farm”. I do have a variety of maps and drawings from that period and would like to know which ones precisely you would like to receive. Also, I am trying to figure out if there is a link between Major Pigott and my farm. If anyone can help… I would be very grateful.
Greetings from France,
Emmanuel
Hi Emmanuel,
I’m afraid we don’t have any extra information about Pigott Farm in the Dorset History Centre collections. It may be worth contacting the museum of Beck’s regiment, the Royal Warwickshires, who may have more information about Major Pigott and the troops’ activities in your area. Their website is at
Best wishes,

Hello Emmanuel,
I am researching the Queen’s Westminster Rifles who arrived in Houplines on the 26th of December and stayed in the area until May 1915. I have a lot of photos of farms & buildings in the area.
Some of the farms and buildings seem to have gained and lost names as units rotated.
Some like Ferme du Pont were renamed to Edmeads Farm and seem to have retained that name well into the War. Other farms were called Hobbs Farm, (Ferme de la Moulardenis) Kentish Farm, (La Ruage), Cater’s Farm (SE of Touquet), Step Farm (in the German Lines possibly Fme de la Vacherie), so I would be fascinated to learn where Piggotts Farm was.

Hi sorry to be a pain but does any one know where I could locate Hobbs Farm?
Thank you so much
Mike
