“C” Coy in reserve trench night of 28/29. German heavies shelled the CHATEAU and near slopes of POINT 63.
28th JANUARY: TRENCHES LA CRECHE
H.Q.trench shelled both morning and afternoon (36 shells). Our guns shelled the WHITE ESTAMINET and BENNETT’S HOUSE opposite the Somerset Light Infantry’s trenches. Our artillery shelled it after which it was retaken. 1 killed, 3 wounded. Relieved by 2nd R.Dublin Fusiliers at 7.30 pm.
27th JANUARY: TRENCHES LA CRECHE
Heavy sniping during the night. A & B Coys shelled by one howitzer. Our guns fired well on German trenches. 4 wounded.
26th JANUARY: TRENCHES LA CRECHE
Quiet night, little sniping. A few shells in West end of village. 28 Whizz Bangs burst in vicinity of H.Q. trench but did no damage. No casualties – fine all day.
25th JANUARY: TRENCHES LA CRECHE
Germans shelled village- heavy sniping throughout the day – 2 killed 1 wounded – weather improving.
24th January: LA CRECHE
Relieved 2nd .Dublin Fus in trenches at ST YVES at night. Quiet night.
23rd January: LA CRECHE
Germans sent one shell close to STEENWERCK station but did no damage. Fine day.
22nd January: LA CRECHE
Battalion bath at PONT NIEPPE. German Aeroplane dropped 2 bombs close to village, these were followed by six shells (about 6”). One wounded of “A” Coy.
