Left YPRES at 12 midnight for WIELTJE where orders were received for the attack. The Brigade attacked at 4.30a.m. We attacked wood on the left of the line with 7th Arg. & Suth. Highldrs [Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders] in support. Seaforths [Seaforth Highlanders], R.Irish Fus [Royal Irish Fusiliers] & R. Dub. Fus [Royal Dublin Fusiliers] attacked on our right on ST JULIEN. Owing to the German trenches being insufficiently shelled and Supports unable to come up, the line retired at 7a.m. to trenches near WIELTJE Farm & consolidated our position. Our casualties were very heavy.

A great uncle of ours, William Plant Gordon of the Warwickshire Division was killed in action in this area on this day 25th April 1915.
