Colonel Poole left for England to take over a Brigade at 11 am. Band of 12th Field Ambulance played him off. Major G.N.B.Forster took over command of the Battalion.

Working parties of 200 men found by Battalion for work on 3rd line Trenches

Battalion was paraded at 10 am. for Colonel A.J.Poole to bid them farewell & he said he thanked all ranks for the hearty support he had received during his tenure of Command & looked on his promotion not as a compliment to himself but as a compliment to the Regiment.

26th August-TRENCHES

A good deal of German Shelling during the morning. Germans fired Trench Mortar Bombs between 3 & 4 pm. A wire was received from Lieut. General T.D.O. Snow with greetings to the 4th Division this the first anniversary of battle of LE CATEAU. Continue reading →

Fine & warm. Very quiet day. No shelling on either side. 2nd Essex Regt. Came in on our left. Work continued on Trenches.

German Guns & Trench Mortars busy on ‘D’ Coys Trench but did little damage.

Work done on communication trenches.

Fine day. Church Parade in SALLE DE UNION at 9 am. Relieved 2nd R.Dublin Fus. In trenches at 9 pm. Relief completed by 11 pm. B & D Coys front line, ‘C’ in Support, ‘A’ in reserve.
