9th Oct
Working Parties found as on 8th. Fine, cold wind.
8th Oct.- MAILLEY-MAILLET
Battalion found Working Parties, 557 men, for work on Trenches & 2nd Line.
Regimental Concert in SALLE DE REUNION 6 to 7.30 pm. Fine. Cold & wintry.
7th Oct.- MAILLY-MAILLET
Battalion cleaned up. Route march at 2 pm. for inspection by Army Commander but this was cancelled. Did 3 miles.
6th Oct.- TRENCHES
Foggy morning & very quiet. Battalion relieved by 1st King’s Own Lancaster Regt. At at 8 pm. & Battalion marched to billets at MAILLY-MAILLET. One blanket per man issued.
5th Oct.- TRENCHES
Heavy shelling heard from direction of ARRAS. Quiet day. Less sniping than usual.
Rained all day.
4th Oct.- TRENCHES
German guns active most of day & Trench Mortars active. & Trench Mortars active. One bomb fell in B Coy’s trench knocking in one dugout. 1 killed 4 wounded. German 5.9s busy between 5 & 6 pm. but did no damage. Our heavies retaliated in the SALIENT with effect. Stormy in morning.
3rd Oct.- TRENCHES
Quiet night and day. More German sniping than usual. Capt.Hesketh Pritchard came up during the afternoon to do some sniping accounting for one German. Fine day.
2nd Oct.- TRENCHES
Quiet day. G.O.C.IV Divn Major General Hon.Lambton inspected the Trenches in afternoon. German Howitzers fire single shots from 9 to 10 pm. Fine day. One man killed by sniper.
1st Oct.- TRENCHES-SUCRERIE- MAILLY MAILLET
Quiet day, A little more shelling by the Germans in the morning, but little damage. German Aircraft active. Fine & cold.
