20 Jul CAMP – BERTRANCOURT

Fine day. Battn. Received orders to prepare to move. Battalion marched off at 3.15 pm. Via LOVENCOURT, BEAUQUESNE & arrived BEAUVAL 8.15 pm. Very hard march. Battalion billeted in village. “C”Coy. Moved to BEAUSSART for Tunnelling Work.

17 Jul Trenches – AUCHONVILLERS

Wet morning. Enemy very quiet, our guns shell slightly. Battalion relieved by KINGS OWN LANCS REGT. & marched to Camp N.W. of BERTRANCOURT- ACHEUX Rd. Arrived 10pm.

16 Jul Trenches – AUCHONVILLERS

Fine day. Enemy Artillery active all day & most of night. Our Guns retaliated on their front & Second Line. Enemy Snipers active at night & use lots of Flares. Aeroplane observed dropping lights over BEAUSSART at 11 pm.

15 Jul CAMP – MAILLY – FORCEVILLE ROAD

Fine day. Battalion relieved 2nd R.DUB.FUS. in left Sector of line at night. “B” Coy on right, “A” Coy left, “D” Coy Support, and “C” Coy reserve in TENDERLOIN. R.IRISH FUS. On our right, E.LANCS ON LEFT. Quiet night. Our Transport shelled near SUCRERIE & Pte CLARKE killed & 3 Horses.

Fine day. Coy do drill parades 9 to 12. 350 men and 4 Officers on Working Party at 9.30 pm. For carrying Gas Cylinders to front line, & return at 4 am. No casualties.
