Fine day. Corps Commander General HUNTER-WESTON addressed the Battalion at 11.30 am. & complimented all ranks on fine work accomplished. Battalion moved to Camp on MAILLY-FORCEVILLE ROAD & settled down by 4.30pm.

Wet day. Enemy trenches bombarded from 8 to 9 am. Germans retaliated on our front line, and TENDERLOIN. Parapets badly damaged but no casualties. Battalion relieved by 2^nd DUB. FUS. & marched to Mailly. “A” Coy went to AUCHONVILLERS. Wet night.

A 5.9 fell very close to my dugout well shook up. Candle put out by explosion & torch switched on. Near thing. Relieved at night through 5^th Avenue. Up to waist in mud & water. Trench waders full up. Shelling all night. No sleep.

Fine day. Artillery quiet during morning. Bd General WILDING visited Trenches. Enemy shelled 4rh AVENUE & vicinity of TENERLOIN in afternoon & TENDERLOIN & SUNKEN ROAD at night. A 5.9 burst amonst some Smoke Candles & Bombs which blazed for 5 minutes & was then extinguished.

Lucky night for me just missed. 12 casualties.

Wet day. Artillery on both sides very quiet during morning. HUNS open in afternoon & we retaliate in evening. 4^th AVENUE, CHATHAM TRENCH & ALBUERT cleared out and work on front line continued.

Fine day. Enemy shell Support lines and TENDERLOIN and front line in afternoon. Our line entrenched to Sector 6. R.IRISH on our right & 29^th Div. On left. Very wet night. HUNS very anxious & send flares up all night. Enemy Artillery active all night.

Battalion took over front line. R.IR.FUS on left & LANCS.FUS. on right “C” & “D” Coys in front line, “A”Coy reserve in TENDERLOIN, “B” Coy in Support. Enemy Artillery active in morning. Dark night & some rain.

Germans send Burial Parties out from 1 – 3 pm. Our Artillery bombarded on our front line with heavies.
