Fine morning rather windy very sharp frost. Heavy gunning all round. OC, Adj & Coys Officers visit new line, return about 4.0 pm. Fine night but very noisy, not much sleep.

Fine morning still very cold. Working parties as usual. Fairly quiet. Hostile aircraft active. Quiet night. 3 letters from L.

Fine morning, very cold, easterly wind. Div Gen [Divisional General] visits Camp and & is satisfied. S.M. ELLIS RIF [Royal Irish Fusiliers] late Gren Gds [Grenadier Guards] visits me in afternoon & has tea. Very cold again at night, heavy gunning all day. Fine night, strong wind, good sleep.
Feb 5 CAMP 18
Fine morning, very cold rather misty. Sergeants HARROD & PRATT return from leave. We find working party of 250 for MAURE PAS. Surprise at night Draft of 45 including C.O’DELL who has joined as R.S.M but what will be done with him I don’t know. Had a long talk & didn’t write. Chaplain returned from leave about 11.0 pm. Hostile aircraft busy, not much sleep, very cold.

Fine morning again, very sharp frost. Sunday glorious day & quite warm at midday. Church Service 9.45 am, very good service. H.C. after parade service. C.O. inspects huts 11.0 am. See Capt MONTGOMERY in afternoon, looks well. Heavy gunning all day.

Fine morning very cold. Coys do training parades. Glorious day, very heavy firing all day. Had a drop of rum at night & it got over me but I slept well. Heavy gunning during night.
2 Feb CAMP 112
Fine morning very cold again. We prepare to move to Camp 18 NE of SUZANNE. Div HdQrtrs & D Coy move at 1.24 pm, other coys at 200x intervals. C.B.A. arrive Camp 18 about 4 pm. Very dirty place. Get kits etc. up very late. Awful cold, some frost. Turn in about 10.0 pm. Poor night. C.O. goes on leave.

Fine morning rather milder. Fatigue Party of 150 on aerodrome. Remainder on Route March. Put in application for a month’s leave, don’t suppose it will come off. Trust to luck.
