Fine day, plenty of aircraft & shelling. Lt Bateman goes away & Hankey takes over.

Fine day, lot of air activity again.

Fine day great air activity & shelling no casualties for us, but several in the Bttn [Battalion]

Fine day. Fritz does some shelling & a piece hits the QM Mr Bateman but nothing much, he sends over a lot of heavy stuff, also shells Arras.

Showery morning. Troops move by bus at 3.0pm for the line. We move by Lorry to Schramm Bks [Barracks] then by march route to Wilderness Camp & what a wilderness it is, all smashed up. Get settled in a dug out. Troops stay in support, some casualties.

Showery morning, get settled alright & prepare for a long stay, but get orders at noon to move at night. Troops go off about 6.0pm by march route to camp at St. ELOY. We go by Lorry about 10.0pm arrive about 2.0am. Fritz shelling no bon.

Bttn [Battalion] moves 10.0am by train, we leave about 1.0pm by Lorry for BUNEVILLE , arrive about 3.0pm nice little village, good place for stores, have a good nights sleep.

Fine day we leave billets for Auchel about 10.0am, arrive Auchel & unload. I have a very nice billet but we get orders to move again tomorrow. Fritz comes over at night & drops some Eggs. 1 Cpl D Coy wounded. Not much sleep.

Fine day. B Coy [Company] complete belt of apron wire in front of old line. Bttn [Battalion] relieved by 3 Coys R.W. Fus [Royal Welch Fusiliers] 19^th Div. relief complete about 3.30pm.

Very hot day. Bttn side slips to the left & takes over part of the sector held by 1^st R Bgde [Rifle Brigade] relief complete about 3.30pm. Our Arty [Artillery] very active at night.
