Snow in the morning. Coys do Education, I give a lecture to N.C.O’s

Fine morning. We do a route march, some trouble with Coys on account of rations, but it’s settled alright & the men parade. I get a sleep in the afternoon.

Fine again, but very cold. Quiet day & not much doing.

Fine morning but cold. C.O. goes to Brussels. Quiet day.

Snowing again & very cold, we cancel our trip to Charleroi on account of the weather. I find Mads [Madames] ring & give to her back again. We go to La Vallee at night, just have a drink and walk home again, very nice stroll. We carry out experiments with new magazines.

Fine day but very cold. C.O inspects billets at 10.45 am. We play the Dukes in the afternoon. I have a nice bath at night. The lady of the house loses her ring which I find afterwards. We beat the Dukes 2-1.

Fine day but cold. We have a route march in the morning, very nice Band & Drs [Drums?] play. Vauxhall at night very nice, but too many people.

Fine day cold. We do a bit of training in the morning but things are fairly quiet. Cold again at night. I get a bit of a cold. R ½ Bttn play Seaforths & win 1-0.

Fine but dull & cold. Not much doing in the morning. Left ½ Bttn play Dukes [Duke of Wellingtons] & win 5-1
