Battalion found 500 men for Working Party on 3^rd Line Trenches at Forceville. Wet day.

Coy & Platoon Drill. Coys bath at Acheux. Capt Richards joined from E.Lancs

Men cleared up. General Lambton inspected billets in afternoon. 4^th Division Follies in full swing at the SUCRERIE ACHEUX.

Work continued on trenches. Front line still bad in parts. General Hull visited Trenches in afternoon. Officers of 2^nd Monmouthshire Regt. visited the line.

A few shells fell in Monk Trench & five Torpedoes without damage.

Hard work clearing trenches. MONK Trench very bad. Germans fired 10 4.2 shells into Monk Trench in morning and Aerial Torpedoes into HELL FIRE CORNER in centre company. Fine day. Our heavies bombarded the REDAN [? ROAD omitted]. during the afternoon.

More rain during the night.. Fine day, Trenches worse & impassable in places. All Coys worked hard in clearing trenches & mending the parapet. Several dug-outs fell in & 2 men were killed through this cause. Very little activity on either side.

Rained all day, trenches in a very bad state & many landslides in various parts of the Trenches. Men at work all day. 7^th Rum issue. Men thoroughly soaked but cheerful. Hostile guns & snipers very active.
