Day of rest. Lieut G.Crawford-Wood proceeded to England to join Welch [sic] Guards.[Note.The Welsh Guards were raised in February 1915]

Heavy German Mortars opened on B Coy with effect, & fired 11 Bombs. Heavy Artillery fire on our right at 7.30 pm on TURCO FARM, in front of 16^th Brigade. Battalion relieved at 9.30 pm by 2^nd R.Dublin Fus. & Battalion marched to Billets at A 16 Central arriving 3.30 am. 1 man killed 3 wounded.

Very quiet day, a good deal of sniping at night, probably due to our bombing parties. 1 man wounded.

Heavy shelling of Canal Bank from 3.30 to 4am. Remainder of day fairly quiet. We sent Patrols out about 11pm to ascertain whether Germans were holding front line in strength. Bombs were thrown & trenches were considered to be quite strongly held. Fine day. 1 man wounded.

Heavy shelling of our front trenches continued. 2 men wounded.

Brig General A.Hull visited trenches at 11 am. Heavy shelling on our front line from 4 to 8 pm. Heavy Rifle fire from German trenches at 5.30 pm lasting about 10 minutes. 2/Lieut G.F.Hewitt & 37 men joined Battalion from Base. Lieut G.H.Pollock died of wounds at 10^th Field Ambulance. 1 man killed & 2 wounded.

Quiet day, little shelling in afternoon & evening without damage. Work on trenches continued. Communication trench to “c” Coy completed. Lieut G.H.Pollock seriously wounded by listening patrol. 2 other ranks wounded. Lieut H.J.Small went sick.

Quiet day, little sniping & shelling. Aircraft active. 2 wounded. ‘A’ Coy sent from support line to local reserve.

Orders received to relieve Lancashire Fusiliers in fron of LANCASHIRE FARM. Coys marched off at 6.30 pm. at 10 minutes interval. Relief completed by 1 am with 1 casualty. A great deal of shelling and sniping during relief on Canal Bank B & C Coys in front line & 1 platoon of A Coy. D Coy in support.

Fine warm day. Major General H.F.M.Wilson C.B. presented D. Conduct Medal to 5580 C.S.M. Ariss & 6243 C.S.M. Green at 2.30 pm.
