Coys [companies] did 4 hours training. Fine & warm. Battalion marched off at 4pm to OULTERSTEENE & went into billets.

12th April: LA CRECHE

Battalion marched off at 10.30am to BAILLEUL & went into billets I RUE DE MOULINS. At 11.50 p.m. Zeppellin [sic] flew over town dropped 15 Bombs. One fell in RUE DE MOULINS, demolished 2 houses. 2 women & 1 baby killed.

10th April: TRENCHES STEENBECQUE

Quiet day. A few heavy shells fired from direction of WARNETON into our lines between 3 & 4 pm. Little damage. Relieved at night by 2nd R. DUB FUS [Royal Dublin Fusiliers] & Battalion marched to billets at LA CRECHE. 1 man killed. Fine & warm.

9th April: TRENCHES STEENBECQUE

“C” Coy [company] shelled during the night. A bombing party under Lieut Nicolai went out & threw 21 grenades at a house in front of D Coy [company]. Damage not known. A few “Little Willies” on H.Q. [Headquarters] Farm. Real April weather.

8th April: TRENCHES STEENBECQUE

Very quiet day. Enemy active at night with M. Guns. [Machine Guns] 1 man killed. 1 man wounded. A coy [company] of 4th R. Berks Regt [Berkshire Regiment] attached to Battalion for instruction.

7th April: TRENCHES STEENBECQUE

Very quiet day. Trenches in very bad state after the rain. Major J.H.M.Bannerman joined Battalion from England. Snipers & M. Guns active at night. 1 man killed (Pte Walker, carrying rations) 2 men wounded. Showery.

6th April: POINT 63

“B” Coy [company] found working party. Divisional Boxing Tournament completed. Relieved 2nd R. DUB FUS [Royal Dublin Fusiliers] in trenches in evening without incident. No casualties.
