Fine day we leave billets for Auchel about 10.0am, arrive Auchel & unload. I have a very nice billet but we get orders to move again tomorrow. Fritz comes over at night & drops some Eggs. 1 Cpl D Coy wounded. Not much sleep.

Fine day. B Coy [Company] complete belt of apron wire in front of old line. Bttn [Battalion] relieved by 3 Coys R.W. Fus [Royal Welch Fusiliers] 19th Div. relief complete about 3.30pm.
Thursday 22 August
Very hot day. Bttn side slips to the left & takes over part of the sector held by 1st R Bgde [Rifle Brigade] relief complete about 3.30pm. Our Arty [Artillery] very active at night.

Fine day. Usual working parties. Maj Kinnington MC takes over temp cmd [temporary command] of the Bttn [Battalion]
Tuesday 20 August
Fine day. Bttn rest & clean up. Working parties under RE [Royal Engineers] in the afternoon. Quiet night.
Monday 19 August
Fine day. Patrols discover enemy retiring & we push on left forward some 500 yards. Bttn [Battalion] relieved at night by 2nd Sea Hrs [Seaforth Highlanders]. Relief completed about 1.0am no casualties. Bttn HQ at Halfway house.
Sunday 18 August
Fine day. News received of enemys retirement again & patrols kept very active. Our Arty [Artillery] very active harassing. Lt J Hanley joins Bttn as Qr M [Quartermaster] rotten luck.
Saturday 17 August
Fine day, but windy, hostile Arty active on Pacaul Wood, enemy retains his line & is very active with MG fire. Wet at night.
Friday 16 August
Fine day. Enemy Arty [Artillery] very active early morning. A Coy have 2 men gassed Blue X. Hostile Arty active on Pacaul Wood.
Thursday 15 August
Fine day. Church pde [parade] in the morning preparatory to taking over the line. Bttn [Battalion] relieves 2nd Essex Regt at night, very quiet relief complete about 12.15 am.
