Fine morning. Bayonet fighting competition on all day. Won by 2nd Sea Hls [Seaforth Highlanders] we get 3rd place. Ind Rings first, Trench attack then pointing & last the attack. Very nice time for it but not well run. Capt EVEYARD (?) badly wounded & dies later in the day. Heavy gunning at night.

May 8 SAVY
Wet morning at last, very heavy rain & camp in bad state. Fine again about 11.0 am & camp soon gets dry again. Rum issue at night very heavy gunning, but sleep well.
May 7 SAVY
Fine day. Training as usual. Range 10.30 am. We do very well. Aeroplane nose dives not far from camp. Fairly quiet. Good nights sleep.
May 6 SAVY
Fine morning still very windy. No parades for training. Church parade 11.30 am very nice. Quiet afternoon & evening, not a good sleep.
May 5 SAVY
Fine morning, change in the wind. Fine day but very windy. Dull at night but fine. Very heavy gunfire about 2.30 am.
May 4 SAVY
Fine day. Not so much gunning, lots of rumours but nothing definite. Det does parades & goes to Baths at SAVY. We stroll to MINGOVAL at night & meet 2Lt CHANDLER late 1st Bttn. Quiet night no hostile aircraft.
May 3 SAVY
Fine day. Heavy Gunning from early morning all day. The Div attacks early morn, and we hear all sorts of rumours, but nothing definite. Turn in about 10.0 pm. Hostile aircraft come round & drop 5 bombs in vicinity of camp. No damage here. Later more bombs dropped, 12 I count, but they are farther away. Not a good sleep.
May 2 SAVY
Fine day. Det parades as usual. Very quiet. Have a nice stroll in the afternoon. Quiet night good sleep.
May 1 SAVY
Fine day. Det parades 9-11 am. Drill 11-12 Bayonet 2-3 pm. Kit inspection. SM DUNTON & I go for a walk at night, nice quiet walk return about 8.50 pm. Capt ROBERTS wounded.
April 30 Camp SAVY
Fine morning. Det does parades, very quiet time. We go out at night, but beer very bad. Good night.
