Wet morning fine later. Awful mess to get our dug out passable, about a foot of mud & water in it, but we make it fairly decent. Heavy strafe in the afternoon. We get relieved by the 2nd Lincolns at night. Hd Qrs arrive about 6.0 pm relief complete about 8.0 pm. We march to MAUREPAS & then get lorries to Camp 111 on BRAY-ALBERT Road. Arrive home about 11.0 pm very tired & dirty.
29 Dec Trenches
Wet again, everywhere in a bad state, we get a sump hole dug in our dug out & run some of the water off. Sides start to fall in & we are kept pretty busy, but fix in up fairly well. Officers of 2nd Lincolns come up in afternoon to look round & don’t find the place very pleasant. Rain & mist all day. Heavy shelling on front line. No casualties.
28 Dec Trenches
Fine morning. Slight frost. Plenty of shelling but very little rifle or M.G. fire. We improve our dugout as well as possible, which is very bad. 12 of us have to sleep in a very cramped place bad Hd Qrs couldn’t be worse. Misty afternoon rain at night. Wet comes in our dug out & we have several inches of wet & mud. No casualties.
