Enemy Artillery normal except on right. AUCHONVILLERS shelled rather heavily about 4 pm. Also TENDERLOIN, 4TH AVENUE & SUNKEN ROAD. Relieved by 1st Hants, 1st Somersets & 6th Warwicks. 4 Casualties during relief. Capt. BAILY & Lieut. ELLIOTT wounded. Battalion marched to Camp at BERTRANCOURT and all were tired after 9 days severe shelling. Raid which was to take place was cancelled on account of Barrage put up by Enemy Artillery.

24 Jun Trenches – AUCHONVILLERS
5 days Bombardment started prior to great “PUSH”. Enemy retaliation weak. At 10pm. Gas was discharged from our front line but was stopped at 11pm. Owing to wind being unfavourable. The Enemy put heavy barrage about 10.30 pm. On our front line and Support & this was kept up till 1.30 a.m. Our trenches damaged a good deal. Enemy fired 5.9’s, 4.2’s and Whizz Bangs. The Gas did not seem to have much effect on the Germans. Our Casualties were heavy, mostly owing to Shell fire, although a few were gassed by the Gas being blown back. 2nd Lieuts LUKEY & GAMBLE killed. 2nd Lieuts GILES & PUGH wounded. Other ranks – 8 Killed, 37 Wounded, 8 Gassed, 2 Missing, 1 Shock.
20 Jun Trenches – AUCHONVILLERS
Quiet day. Few Field Gun Shells fired into “A”Coy’s trench. British Aeroplane brought down near SERRE by Enemys Anti-Aircraft Guns. Work done on front line & Assembly trenches.
19 Jun Trenches – AUCHONVILLERS
“B” Coy’s Bombers bombed Crater near REDAN on night of 18th. No Germans seen. Our front line shelled by 4.2’s between 2.45 & 3.30 pm. 10 Casualties. About 20 “Whizz Bangs”[grenade] fired into “B” Coy’s Sector, also Trench Mortars – no damage.
31st July- Trenches
Quiet night & day. Draft of 115 men joined from base & 2nd Lieut S.H.Dowson, C.B.Sharpe & D.H.Willis. Casualties today 1 killed.

24th May: WIELTJE
Heavy Rifle fire broke out from the front at 3 am. This was followed by Gas which reached us at 3.30am. Regiment ordered to ‘Stand to Arms’ & put on Respirators, these proved effective where put on properly. Continue reading
8th May: FARM H 5 Centre
Orders to hold ourselves in readiness to move received 11a.m. Regiment & 2nd R. Dublin Fusiliers marched off at 4.15pm to go up in support of 84th Brigade & proceeded via Bridge 1a & by brook to POTIJZE CHATEAU. Continue reading
3rd May: SHELL TRAP FARM
Heavily shelled during the morning, quiet in afternoon until about 4 pm when a cloud of German Gas was seen arriving catching 2 Regiments in the firing line which broke, the gas came on to us. Some of our men went back, but we formed up as many as possible & made a line in rear. Germans attempted an attack from the wood which was repulsed with loss. These last 3 days had shaken the Regiment up & affected the Morale of the Regiment & we are in great need of a rest.
30th April: WIELTJE
Shelled at intervals without damage. Position now well consolidated & wire put up. Received orders to move to support line. Regiment was very much shaken up after the week’s work.
29th April: WIELTJE
Heavy shelling all day. Our trenches shelled with heavies from 12 to 1pm & 5 to 6pm. Little damage done. 2 men wounded. Heavy Artillery firing all night.
