Very dull & misty again. Both Artys [Artilleries] active. Fritz dumps a few round us, but no damage. Preparations being made for stunt tomorrow. Rain at night.

Friday 18 October NAVES

Fine but still very dull & misty, prepare for line, pde ready to march 4.30pm. Get up to Bttn HQrs about 8.0pm, rotten time, very heavy shelling, we have 1 man wounded on HdQrs. Relieve ¼ D of W Reg [Duke of Wellingtons Regiment]. Relief complete about 10.0pm. Not much sleep.

Move up to join Bttn [Battalion] fine day. Jump 6 Lorries before reaching Bttn at NAVES get there about 4.0pm. Jerry shells a bit at night, but I sleep well.

Move to Arras, arrive about 2.30pm. Details. Bttn [Battalion] move to St OLLE at 10.0am arrive about 4.0pm, go by Lorry, Transport move by march route.

Fine day. Bttn work under Coy [Company] arrangements. Orders for night operations cancelled later on account of probable move tomorrow. Orders to move received about 1.0am night 10-11th inst.
