Fine day. Start NCOs class & do very well. Bttn [Battalion] have a big Bgde day, come in again about 4.0pm. We play 9^th Coy RE [9th Company Royal Engineers] at football & beat them 1-0.

Wet day & dull. Bttn spend the day cleaning up, & inspections.

Move to Simencourt to join Bttn [Battalion], arrive 12.0 noon. Bttn in camp. I get a billet for 17frs a day, very decent place & 2 decent old people.

Fine day. Details attend church pde, get ready to move tomorrow.

Fine day, move to Loeuz to join details, arrive about 1.0pm. Can’t get a billet so stay with Sgt Drummer.

Fine morning dull later. We expect to move but hear nothing. I visit Bttn [Battalion] in the afternoon & see C.O. who tells me to take over my old job as RSM. Fine night.

Fine day, much air activity, we see a Jerry plane under escort in the morning. I stay in all day rather disappointed as I want to go to Bttn HQrs. Fine night.

Fine day, I do my washing, I go to Achiecourt in the afternoon & buy vegetables for the Bttn [Battalion]. Some rain at night but not too much. See one of our planes hit by one of our shells in flight, poor devils, down like lead.

Dull day some rain in the morning, but not much. I visit Bttn [Battalion] in the afternoon & am asked to take over RSM again. Consider it & say yes. Fine night.

Fine day. Bit of hustle. Bttn [Battalion] comes out of the line into support, rather a good shack for them. Fine night & cold.
