26th August-TRENCHES
A good deal of German Shelling during the morning. Germans fired Trench Mortar Bombs between 3 & 4 pm. A wire was received from Lieut. General T.D.O. Snow with greetings to the 4th Division this the first anniversary of battle of LE CATEAU. Continue reading
25th August- TRENCHES
Fine & warm. Very quiet day. No shelling on either side. 2nd Essex Regt. Came in on our left. Work continued on Trenches.
24th August- TRENCHES
Fine & warm. Quiet day. German snipers active at night.
23rd August- TRENCHES-SUCRERIE- MAILLY MAILLET
German Guns & Trench Mortars busy on ‘D’ Coys Trench but did little damage.
Work done on communication trenches.
22nd August
Fine day. Church Parade in SALLE DE UNION at 9 am. Relieved 2nd R.Dublin Fus. In trenches at 9 pm. Relief completed by 11 pm. B & D Coys front line, ‘C’ in Support, ‘A’ in reserve.
21st August.- MAILLY-MAILLET
Germans fired 12 (15 lbs) shells into the village. Our artillery retaliated on SERRE and BEAUMONT HAMEL. Working Party of 500 men.
20th August
Working Party of 500 men found again. 2nd Lieut S.V.Figg joined the Battalion.
19th August
Wet day. Working Party as usual.
18th August
Heavy rain in morning. Working Party of 500 men found again.
