Fine but cold. I go round again with the Colonel & try to find a football pitch which we do in the afternoon. Fine night.

Fine but cold. I go round billets with the CO, rather a long time, billets not too bad, return 12.30, have a big day at “orders” 11 prisoners.

Monday 5 January BINCHE

Fine morning, very cold. We parade at 8.30 am & march to St. Saulue to embus, which we do after a long wait. Leave about 11.0 am & after a good but cold journey arrive BINCHE about 2.30 pm. Get a very good billet & have a good night. 27 rue Heurtebise. Mme VANDERVOOST

Fine day but dull & cold, more rain at night. Quiet day we get prepared for move on Monday. Load wagons etc. ready to move in the morning.

Fine day, but very cold. Wet again at night. Nothing much doing in the morning. Div Gen [Divisional General] just has a look round. Final Brigade Inter Coy Footer 2.15 pm. Our A Coy v C Coy Seaforths. We lose 2.0 poor game. Have a Bonne Sante at night.

Fine morning after a wet night. Bttn [Battalion] goes on a route march about 1.0 noon. Party goes away to Demobilization Centre Watford. I miss it. Cheerio.o.

Wednesday 1 January 1919 Valenciennes

Fine day. We have a holiday. Officers play the Sergts at Football in the afternoon, former win by 4-1, very cold. Heavy rain at night. Quiet time.

Wet again. Not much doing. Offrs [Officers] dinner at night Hotel-du-Flandres, plenty of singing etc. but I have a good nights sleep.

Wet day. Not much doing. A Coy play A Seaforths in the afternoon Semi final Bgde Cup. A win 3-0 good game. Whist drive at night Offrs & Sgts [Officers & Sergeants] 32 play, very nice evening.

Sunday 29 December Valenciennes

Fine day. Church service at 10.45 very nice. Nothing in the afternoon so I go to hear the band at the theatre, very nice indeed. Get a bottle at night Martells
