Dull day. CO’s inspection of Bks [Barracks] etc. Play 9th I Coy RE in afternoon. Draw 1-1

Dull day. We do training.

Dull morning but fine. Have a rehearsal for Kings pde [parade] at 9.0 am. Pde 1.45 pm for HM The King. He arrives about 2.30 pm & presents 2 VC’s. Bgde[Brigade] work very well & look well, he has the POW [Prince of Wales] & Prince Albert with him, they both look well.

Dull morning. Battalion inspection by CO in I.M.O.[Infantry March Order?] Coys [Companies] have to detail 24 files for HM The King who visits us tomorrow.

Dull morning some rain. Football match with Kings Own cancelled on account of reorganisation.

Fine day very cold. Bttn [Battalion] does a route march. I take footballers at training. Visit POW [Prisoner of War] repatriation camp at night, grim place.

Fine morning. Church at 10.0 am in Rec [Recreation] Room. CO inspects Bks [Barracks]. Whist Drive at night in Sgts [Sergeants] Mess Offcrs & Sgnts, very good. Footer match in afternoon Possibles v Probables. Good match but very cold.

Fine cold morning very cold. I have plenty to do, they want footer etc. & I have a busy day. Give 2^nd Seaforths a concert at night, very good.

Wait at Somain until about 7.0am. See Reading who tells me Bttn [Battalion] are in Valenciennes. Go to Bouchain by train then I start to walk, but jump a lorry & arrive about 11.0 am in Bks [Barracks]. Not a very good billet.
