Fine day. Coys do training as usual. We have a shoot in the afternoon. Hd Qrs versus A Coy & we just manage to win by 3 points. Hd Qrs 269 A Coy 266. I score 66. Col gives us 30 frs. B play C in Regt Tourney. B winning after extra time 1-0

Fine morning, open air service. The new chaplain gives us a very good sermon & I think will be well liked. Inspection of billets by C.O. after church. Quiet day.

Lena’s birthday

Fine day, nothing doing only inspections etc by Coys. We have a tea party in the afternoon to keep up my birthday, very pleasant time indeed, then spend the evening quietly at cards. Lena’s birthday & she has a good time too.

Fine morning we get our clothes dry & clean up. Inspection of billets etc by C.O. Quiet at night. Good sleep. Chaplain left us at 2.0pm. Drums play Auld Lang Syne. New Chaplain arrives Rev.J R CROFT.

Sept 6 MIDDLESEX CAMP

Fine morning. Bttn marches off 12.0 noon. Very hot march via Arras Achicourt – Bretoncourt – Basceaux. Get caught in very heavy thunderstorm, everyone drenched, reach Bailleulval 6.30pm. Quiet night sleep in tent. Saw Red Rocket. Very good.

Fine day. Aircraft again active. Church service 11.30am then H.C. after. Farewell services for Chaplain. Fritz sends a few in our direction. 11th Bgde move. 15th Div come in. Quiet night.

Fine day. Aircraft again very active. Fritz shells Fouchey pretty heavily, causes a tremendous explosion about 4.15pm. Find out afterwards that an Ammo Dump went up.

Fine day, aircraft very active. Go up to camp at night to take over HQ things alright, back about 10.0pm. Quiet night. Good sleep.
