Fine morning, very slight rain about 11.0 am. Bttn does training. I walk into Avesnes with MORAN, nice village, can’t get cigarettes. We have memorial Church Service at 3.30 pm to commemorate 25th 1915 and also for those who fell in the recent action. Brig Gen [Brigadier General] attends & we afterwards march past. Quiet night. Gen dines at HdQtrs. We have a Bon Sante with MORAN until about 12.0 mn. Good sleep.
Fine morning. Bttn goes to Baths at AVESNES. Lovely day, very heavy gunning. Brig Gen & Col [Colonel] go to visit 2nd Bttn return about 4.0 pm. Fine night. Good sleep.
Fine morning, get orders to move at 1.25 pm to BEAUFORT about 5 Kls arrive there at 3.0 pm, meet SM MORAN 14th Devons. Get a good billet. Have tea with him & a quiet evening. Good sleep. Heavy gunning all day. Fresh attack but no news.
Fine morning, we spend the day in rest & cleaning up. C.O. inspects billets about 12.0. I have a nap in the afternoon & write at night. Good night’s sleep.
Fine morning & we get ready for Bttn coming in at night. At 11.0 am receive orders to proceed to AMBRINES as Bttn will go there, so start off & arrive about 1.0 pm. Arrange billets which are not very good. Bttn arrives in lorries about 11.30 am all very tired, we turn in & have a good sleep.
Fine morning, get orders to move to NOYONELLE but they are cancelled. I go there with billeting party & meet 11th Bttn stay the night with CSM MACKINTOSH meet several old friends arrange all billets and do very well. Not much sleep.
Fine morning some rain later. We hang about all day waiting to move & eventually get lorries about 5.0 pm & march to ETRUN about 5Kls [kilometres]. Stay there the night. Not much sleep too much gunning.
Wet miserable morning, we hang about all day waiting to move but can’t get lorries, very bad day. Quiet at night, good sleep.
Wet morning, we lay in until about 10.0 am. Get orders to move to ETRUN but don’t succeed as lorries don’t arrive. Awful day, very heavy showers & lots of gunning. Not much sleep at night. Saw Red Rocket too much worry.
Fine morning, much air activity & lots of gunning. Get orders to move into the line at night. C.O., Adjt & all OC Coys visit line. Pack up blankets to send them back . C.O. sends me back to X Camp when Bttn move into line at 9.15 pm. Awful night, heavy rain & we get drenched but what a relief to get out of the line. Cold night but sleep fairly well.
