Cold morning fine but dull, camp soon very muddy after the frost. A Coy find camp pitching fatigue for some other regt. 15 men of D Coy on tent colouring. Pde at 3.30 pm with Can draft & march to Aubigny Station to catch 5.0 pm train. Train leaves at 9.30 pm. We have a very cold journey in cattle trucks & get very little sleep. Arrive ABBEVILLE about 8.0 am & have to stay there all day expecting to move at 6.30 pm.

Mar 15 Camp SAVY
Fine morning but very dirty. I have my ankle painted & bandaged. We send 1 off & 50 men of B Coy to LIGNY & 1 off & 60 men of D Coy to PENIN. Very cold night, sharp white frost, not much sleep.
Mar 14 REBREUVE
Wet morning. Bttn parades ready to move at 9.0 am & we march to SAVY via BERLENCOURT-AMBRINES very hard march & I feel done up when I get in, having my left ankle swollen with rheumatism or something. Arrive SAVY about 2.10 pm go under canvas, very bad camp & heaps of mud. Concert given by 13 Sqdn RFC at night to 250 of our men, very good. Not much sleep, rain & wind.

Wet morning, fine later. Bttn parades for march 10.10 am. DBCA. Very bad roads. March via BONNIERES-FREVENT to REBREUVE arriving about 3.0pm rather hard march, bad roads. We have a very good evening, English beer & a nice warm room. Saw C.S.M. MACKINTOSH, Sgnt ‘D’ MERTON & Sgnt WESTMACOTT 11th Bttn.

Wet morning & very miserable. Corps do training. We get orders for move tomorrow. Draft of 30 arrive with Capt. H. who looks very poorly. Wet nearly all day, roads in a very bad state.

Fine morning. Church parade cancelled. Soft day, nothing much to do. Drums play at 11.30 am. Rain in afternoon, poor night but fine.

Fine morning, thaw during night, roads bad already. We get orders to join 17th Corps at 6 hours notice, rotten luck, but don’t move. Mail arrives 4 letters from L. Tres bien. Quiet night good sleep.
Mar 9 MEZEROLLES
Very cold with snow storms. Coys start to do training, ground hard and in good condition. I walk round with Adj [Adjutant] who seems worried. Heavy snow in afternoon. Quiet night. Good sleep. No mail.

Snow storms in morning & very cold. Bttn spend the day in cleaning up, inspections etc. Two more suspected cases of measles. Saw Maj BANNERMAN in afternoon, he looked very well, but couldn’t stay long, car broke down & he had to walk to Div. H.Q. No mail.
Mar 6 VILLERS-BOCAGE
Fine morning, cold wind. Bttn marches to BEAUVAL 13 km nice march, fairly good road. March 11.40 am arrive BEAUVAL 3.0 PM. Good billet No 48 Mademoiselle RIFFART Clara. Btn receives orders to march to VILLERS-LE-HOPITAL but this is cancelled on account of measles in A & C Coys. No mail.
