Fine morning, slight frost. Bttn moves to CORBIE 12.10 pm. Nice march arrive CORBIE 3.0 pm. Good Billet, Madame Farine very pleased to see me. I have a nice bed & good sleep. Heavy snow during night. 11 km. See Chaplain en route.

Slight frost, dull morning, Coys at training, we get orders to move tomorrow. Visit SAILLY LAMETTE in afternoon to see final of Lambton Cup 10^th F.A. [Field Ambulance] v R.I.F. [Royal Irish Fusiliers]. Good game. Amb win 3-1. Get home 5.30 pm. Fine night. Chaplain sends me 5 eggs. Very good.

Sharp frost during night, dull misty morning & quick thaw. I walk to Bgde HQ at CHIPPILY. Roads very bad & I get mucked up. Make some pancakes for dinner, very nice. Quiet night. Drums play at 5.0 pm.

Slight rain during night. Fine day quite like summer. Coys do training. Expect visit from Corps Commander Gen. GOUGH, but he didn’t turn up. Col. FORSTER returns from Bgde [Brigade]. Airmen give us another good turn. Beautiful day & very quiet. Huns fetch down a Sausage [barrage balloon] about  5.0 pm. Div band play in afternoon.

Slight rain in the morning, fine later. Very heavy shelling between 5 and 6 am. We learn after that it preceeded an attack at SAILLY & LE TRANSLOY. Former a success & latter not a success. Heavy gunning all day, quiet night.

Fine morning but dull. Coys training. Very heavy gunning all day. More trick flying. I go to concert of the 9^th FC [Field Company] RE at night. Very good concert plenty of beer & cigarettes. Turn in about 11.0 pm. Good night.

Rain early morning, fine later. Aircraft very busy again. Coys do training, we find 100 men for 238 Coy R.E. [Royal Engineers]. Get green patches sewn on our coats, new order. Fine flying by our airmen.

Misty morning. Church Pde 10.0 am. Mist clears about midday. Fine afternoon & aeroplanes have a fine time. New Triplane out on view for first time, fine machine, good tricks. Col FORSTER goes to Brigade.

Sharp frost & nice morning early, but dull & miserable later on. Bttn goes to baths at CHIPPILY, very poor baths & men do not get a clean change. Quiet day but heavy shelling at night.
